Nickelodeon has created yet another awesome show for tweens and teens called True Jackson VP, starring Keke Palmer. My kids like this show and what I like most about it is that it sends a positive message of empowerment to tweens. True Jackson VP is centered around a 15-year-old girl who gets to be the head of the youth division of a major fashion label. In each episode, she learns that with the fabulous opportunity comes a lot of responsibility and the same ups and downs of life that you experience in the high school environment. Of course, I never got to meet rock stars and cute male models when I was in high school, but I’ll try not to be too jealous!
Nickelodeon’s True Jackson VP Season 1, Volume 1 DVD includes 12 episodes from the show’s first season and bonus features such as behind-the-scenes extras, bloopers, cast screen tests and New York Fashion Week: Behind the Scenes of a Real Fashion Show.

Mom of the Year, folks…right here!
So here’s an excerpt from my email to my 6 1/2-year-old son’s pediatrician last night at 8:30pm. I know, I’m lucky. We know the pediatrician personally and I don’t usually ask her questions like this, but I knew she was on call and we’d be seeing her at the ER if it was necessary.
Jordan got hold of an energy drink late afternoon/early evening and drank the whole bottle. We stopped at Sheetz before I had to be at open house and I was such a hurry that when he said he got a “blue drink”, I didn’t even think twice because it was in a clear bottle that looked like gatorade or something and not like your typical energy drink. When I got home tonight, I looked at the EMPTY bottle and thought it was my husband’s, but it was actually the drink Jordan got. He probably drank it all sometime between 4 & 5. We went to dinner after open house (around 7 or so) and he was all over the place and very loud, out of character.
Now that I see he’s finished this drink, I can see why. It’s obvious that he won’t be going to bed anytime soon.

The highlights are 145mg of caffeine in the bottle, L-Carnitine, L-Arginine, L-Leucine, Taurine, Maca Root & 5 mg of Gingko Biloba. !00% daily value of B6, B12, Pantothenic Acid, Niacin. I am assuming that these figures are based on the needs of an adult since it says in small print on the back of the bottle that kids shouldn’t drink this, but I guess the B doesn’t tend to cause a problem dose-wise because it’s water soluble? There’s other gross stuff in it, hence the fact that it says it has 30 calories for the entire 15.5 ounce bottle.
Now while I was typing up this email, my son jumped into my face with a dinosaur mask we cut out of a cereal box that morning and my friend, Jami, told me that I should videotape him because he was growling, but he didn’t have pants on, so I skipped on that.
Our pediatrician was very sweet about it and told me that it’s probably not that big of a deal, that the things other than the caffeine were probably of more concern, but on a one-time deal, not that crucial. Just to watch him, watch for symptoms, all of that.
He was definitely disappointed to flex his arm and find that he didn’t have bigger muscles. After all, this drink promised STRENGTH!
My friend, Jami, and my husband talked me out of calling Poison Control and rushing to the ER or both.
I was practically distraught over a couple of things:
1) Where was my head that I didn’t have any idea what he was getting and the fact that it was BLUE made it okay?
2) How preoccupied was I once we got home that he was able to drink the entire 15.5 ounce bottle without detection?
3) I was stupid enough to Google caffeine toxicity, caffeine overdose, etc
He went to sleep surprisingly easy after he was done YELLING upstairs. I don’t know what he was yelling. I was downstairs Googling.
Sigh. I think it’s a sign I need to slow down. Maybe watch my kids a little.
